This is a small quide to those who not yet know the basic hands in poker. Theres nothing complicated to it, just look below to see the hierarchy of texas hold em hands.

The hands in online texas hold em are the basic hands that are used in poker, the hands are formed using the cards layed on the table by the dealer and those dealt to the players. In such a case where the hand formed with the cards set on the table (community cards) is the best possible hand for every player (Royal Flush is a very good example for this) the cards dealt to the player have no significance.

In any other case hands are formed using at least one of the cards dealt to the player. In the grid below you can see the hands possible first being the strongest hand and the last being the weakest hand.

 

Royal FlushRoyal Flush

Ace-King-Queen-Jack-10. All of the same suit.

Straight FlushStraight Flush

Five connected cards of the same suit.

Four of a KindFour of a Kind

Four cards of the same value. (Here: A-A-A-A-K, which is the strongest "four-of-a-kind" hand, if two players share the same Four of a Kind, higher fifth card (called "kicker") is used to determine who collects the pot.

Full HouseFull House (Aces full of Kings)

Three cards of the same value together with any two cards of the same value. (Here: "Aces full of Kings", which is the highest "full-house" hand)

FlushSpade Flush

Five cards of the same suit (numbers dont matter). The highest card determines the rank of the flush. (Here: Ace-high flush, which is the highest possible flush).

StraightLowest possible Straight

Five consecutive cards of different suits. Aces can have a high or a low value. (Here: 5-4-3-2-A. which is the LOWEST straight, A-K-Q-J-10 of different suits being the highest one)

Three of a KindThree of a Kind

Three cards of the same value. (Here: A-A-A-K-Q, which is the best "three-of-a-kind" hand)

Two PairTwo Pairs (Aces and Kings)

Two cards of the same value together with another two cards of the same value. (Here: A-A-K-K-Q, which is the best "double-pair" hand, the highest pair is used to determine the rank of the hand)

One PairSingle Pair (Aces)

Two cards of the same value. (Here: A-A which is the best "single pair" hand)

High CardHigh Card (Ace)

The card with the highest value. (Here: A-K-Q-J-9, which is the best "high-card" hand).

 

Few good points to remember

  • Suited connectors are considered to be one of the best possible starting hands in texas holdem, because of their ability to create variety of strong hands like flush, straight or even straightflush.
  • Community cards are used by all the players to form the best possible hand.
